The mystery of dark energy

Dark energy is believed to account for 68 percent of all energy in the known universe, and is responsible for its constant expansion. The particle, which is associated with dark energy has long been predicted, but no one has yet udalo detect it.

All forms of energy that are known to have a particle physics associated with it.

Holger Müller and his team from the University of California at Berkeley have taken a step towards finding the basic particles of dark energy. They were able to pick up the closer to a solution than anyone else. The report was published August 20th, 2015 in the journal Science.

Justin Khoury of the University of Pennsylvania made a hypothesis that the fundamental particles of dark energy changed the mass of the particles relative to the medium in which there are. Khoury has suggested that the particles "Chameleon" are light weight and high power factor in the depths of space. However, they gain greater mass and expire near large objects such as stars and planets. This statement suggests that the primary particles of dark energy is hidden.

Muller believes that instruments that physicists were looking for "Chameleon" were too big and too sensitive for detection. According to him, the presence of the particle indication "chameleon" is suppressed large masses. The researchers used a less sensitive atomic interferometer for measuring the speed of the fall of the cesium atoms in a closed vessel. The results showed that cesium atoms dropped, despite the fact that the only force acting on the atoms were gravity.

The experiment showed that the probability of finding a particle of a chameleon as a result of such processes multiplied. Although scientists have not managed to find a particle, which is dark energy, they undoubtedly have increased their chances of finding it in the laboratory.
